Manual Therapy

As mentioned earlier, Manual Therapy is used to treat certain orthopaedic conditions here at Grand River Physiotherapy. Manual Therapy may consist of any of the following techniques:

  • Manipulation - a high velocity thrust technique used to help loosen a stiff joint.
  • Mobilization - a more gentle technique to loosen stiff joints and ease pain
  • Soft Tissue Techniques - massage, deep tissue, trigger point and muscle energy techniques
  • Traction - a gentle stretching technique either manual or mechanical.

Acupuncture in Physiotherapy

Acupuncture involves the insertion of needles into various areas of the skin and body tissues. This technique can be used as an effective way to relieve acute or chronic pain and muscle spasm. Research shows that acupuncture stimulates the brain to produce the body's natural pain relieving chemicals - endorphins.

At Grand River Physiotherapy our physiotherapists have been trained by the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada. We use only the highest quality, sterile, single-use, disposable needles.
